Comparing the Specs of the Honda CR-V and Mazda CX-5

CR-V vs CX-5Looking for a compact SUV in Miami doesn’t have to be a challenge if you do a little bit of research. Everywhere you look in Florida, you will see Honda CR-V and Mazda CX-5 models. They are popular vehicles offering the versatility of an SUV in a compact size that saves on fuel and is easy to maneuver. Although they have similar starting prices and features, they have a few key differences that make one a better choice than the other.

Engines and Fuel Economy

The Honda CR-V offers a single engine while the Mazda CX-5 lets Miami drivers choose from two. The CR-V’s 2.4-liter 4-cylinder generates 185 horsepower and 181 pound-feet of torque and gets up to 29 mpg* combined, class-leading numbers. These numbers are comparable to the Mazda CX-5’s upgraded engine, a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder with 184 horsepower and 185 pound-feet. To take advantage of this power, however, you will need to pay for an upgrade. Otherwise, Mazda drivers get 155 horsepower and a torque of 150 pound-feet from a 2-liter 4-cylinder. Either engine gets up to 29 mpg* combined. All-wheel-drive models of the CR-V get 27 mpg* combined compared to 26 mpg* combined in the CX-5. Looking at the figures, the Honda CR-V gives you more engine output in the base model and the best combination of fuel economy and power.

Cargo Space

The exterior of the CR-V and CX-5 are comparable in size, with the Mazda featuring a 3.5-inch wider wheelbase, 0.9-inch longer frame, and 0.8-inch wider body. It also is 1 inch taller. Most interior measurements are equally neck and neck with each model taking the lead in some measurements. The only area with a significant difference is cargo area, where the Honda CR-V has a huge lead. With the rear seats folded down, the CR-V can give you 70.9 cubic feet, much more than the CX-5’s 64.8 cubes. The Honda even has an extra 0.3 cubic feet of passenger space despite the Mazda’s larger exterior dimensions.
